I was skeptical at first of this car mount due to the lack of reviews and different design.
1) I didn't want a suction cup mount because it's technically illegal in CA.
2) I didn't want one that clipped onto the AC vent because I want all my vents unencumbered.
The solution that I was considering going for was getting one of those weighted friction plates, THEN using a suction cup mount on top of that. That was expensive and bulky.
This mount basically pwns the rest. It's small yet very powerful in terms of positioning. The one problem I ran into was using the adhesive to mount it. I guess I had more polish on my interior than I had expected, so on my first attempt the adhesive didn't stick at all, but after contacting customer service they promptly sent me a new one with another cleaning pad, and after cleaning the area more thoroughly the adhesive stuck like it was supposed to.
So my advice is MAKE SURE you clean the area you're going to attach it VERY thoroughly, otherwise the adhesive won't stick properly.
Great product. Have only been using it for a few days, but it seems durable enough. Will update if it somehow falls apart.

The SoundGate M2 is a well engineered and well made product. The installation instructions are clear and the product mounts easily on curved surfaces. I used the M2 on dash of my '03 Mini Cooper S to mount a 4th Gen. iPod Touch. It mounted well just to the right side of my tachometer, is visible behind the steering wheel, easy to reach and yet hidden enough to keep the iPod in-place when parked.

I was looking for mount for my Ipod Nano 5G and was lucky to find this. It's essentially perfect. The Ipod Nano by itself is small, yet you can hardly see this mount behind it. I mounted it to the left of my radio on a side wall and it looks like an extension of my radio. No suctions or screws involved. Don't bother looking for another mount as you've found the best solution right here. If you want to see exactly how this mount works, look for a video on YouTube with the caption "M2 Mobile Media Mount".

I was looking for a mount for my iphone that would be 1. small, 2. allow me to use my phone in horizontal view (for my GPS app), 3. mount with case on and 4. one that wouldn't shake like crazy while driving. I originally got a Kensington mount that suctions to the windshield and that thing vibrated so much - it was impossible to use. I had to take it back.
SoundGate M2 is awesome. I don't have to get my phone out of the case to mount it. It's very easy to slide on and off the mount - nothing to press or push - you can do it with one hand. It rotates easily, doesn't obstruct my view AND doesn't shake or vibrate. I absolutely love it.

This little gadget does what it is supposed to do and do it well.
First, I don't mind putting a tiny disk on the back of my iphone case because, 1. it is very thin and small and 2. that is one of reasons I bought this because not all car mounts can accommodate iphone with cases. (One caveat: the back of your case or cell phone has to be smooth for the disk to attach)
Second, the part on the car is also small (about 1/3 of a iphone). Once you close the cover you barely notice it.
Third, the iphone sits well in it in both vertical and horizontal positions and doesn't slide even on a bumpy road and you can use the little hex screwdriver provided to really tighten it up if you want to.
Fourth, it is much cheaper than the other car mount like Tomtom or Navigation one's
The only downside for me is it takes longer to install and I always feared the disk or the support may come off either because I didn't clean the surface good enough or the glue is not strong enough. But it turned out very well. I will come back and update my review if it falls off some day.
