Wow, the maker of this bumper sticker is lazy and/or a liar. I did some research that took less then a minute and from the Jefferson Encyclopedia there is not one source on Jefferson ever saying this. Gerald Ford actually said this to a joint session of congress. Just looking at the wording I knew it was suspect. The language and issue is out of the politics of today, not that of the late 18th century. Second, those who would put this sticker are more likely to support big government in such areas as social policy. I know the rightwing makes up quotes by the Founders (Madison being a primed example) but do they have no shame? Next they will have Thomas Paine as a fundamentalist Christian.
