5 out of 5 stars Classic design, works great   April 8, 2009

I prefer this classic design to an electronic wind gauge for several reasons:

1) No batteries. My electronic unit eats batteries at an alarming rate. This one is always ready to go.

2) "Real Time" response. The little ball moves up and down with every slight change in wind speed. It gives me a much better sense of how the wind is gusting than with my electronic one.

3) Easy to read. This unit has big red numbers that are hard to miss. The LCD on the electronic one can be hard to read outside, especially with polarizing sunglasses.

4) Durable. With reasonable care, it should last forever. With the electronic unit, I have to be careful not to scratch the LCD or leave it out in the sun.

5) Easy to use. Can you lift your arm? No array of buttons to press, and no button to find to turn it off.

6) It looks cool! Everyone wants to see this "Classic" design and they always ask me where I found it.

4 out of 5 stars This is not a toy   November 27, 2009

This is an inexpensive, durable, workaday wind gauge. The review form asks to rate it as a toy (educational value, fun, etc.) I have used this model wind gauge for almost 40 years to evaluate appropriate conditions for making acoustical measurements. It is simple to use, durable and a very good value.
